Workshops

The Student Multicultural Center at Kent State University thanks you for your interest in our training sessions.

An SMC staff member facilitates live and engaging workshops on different topics. These occur either on a) pre-determined dates which individuals or groups can register to participate or b) by requesting a workshop for groups on dates other than those already scheduled.  To learn more about the workshops that we cover, please click on the links below.

Allies, Advocates and Accomplices Workshop

Duration: 2 hours

Description: This training will allow participants to develop an understanding of their roles as bystanders, as it relates to people of color. Although someone may not identify with a particular culture or racial/ethnic identity, this does not mean you cannot demonstrate support in some way. We are all in different places as it relates to the way we show support. This training will help participants identify where they are in their journey and tangible ways to demonstrate support as an Ally, Advocate or Accomplice.

Outcomes: As a result of participating in this workshop participants will:

  • Develop an understanding of the different roles of supporting others with different racial identities
  • Develop an understanding of the value of each role (Ally, Advocate, Accomplice)
  • Identify at least one tangible way to support in their current role (Ally, Advocate, Accomplice)
  • Develop the ability to identify the different roles (Ally, Advocate, Accomplice)
