Hyde Park Forum

The Kent State University School of Communication Studies (COMM) hosted the annual Hyde Park Forum on Tuesday, April 24, in the Kent Student Center Ballroom. 

The top three student speakers from both the Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 Introduction to Human Communication courses delivered their persuasive speeches to an audience of about 375 attendees.

The Kent State University School of Communication Studies hosted its first-ever Hyde Park Forum Qualifying Tournament on Dec. 1, 2017, in Taylor Hall. The qualifying competition pits Introduction to Human Communication students against one another using persuasive public discourse with clear calls to action. 

Kent State University’s School of Communication Studies recently hosted its annual Hyde Park Forum, an event in which stand-out students enrolled in the Introduction to Human Communication course deliver persuasive speeches for a panel of judges.

Students compete for scholarships and the coveted People’s Choice Award.

At 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18, Kent State University’s School of Communication Studies (COMM) will hold its annual Hyde Park Forum competition in which select students enrolled in the Introduction to Human Communication course will deliver persuasive speeches for a panel of judges.

Scholarships are awarded to first, second and third place winners, and the audience will name its favorite with the People’s Choice Award.

Hyde Park Forum is an opportunity for students enrolled in the Human Communication Class to engage in persuasive public discourse for an audience of peers, family, and faculty. Students come from a variety of majors.

This year's panel of judges included Heather Wells, Miss Ohio 2013 and graduate of Kent State's School of Journalism and Mass Communication, along with local civic, business and educational leaders.
