Office of Academic Diversity Outreach

For Diamond Lauderdale, Kent State University is not only her chosen college, it is her new home.

While growing up in Akron, Ohio, Ms. Lauderdale’s home life was challenging. She lived with her disabled father and worked two jobs to help make ends meet. Ms. Lauderdale’s father has been unable to walk for many years, and as she got older, her father’s condition worsened. Through it all, Ms. Lauderdale held onto a dream. She wanted to get a college education.

The Kent State University College of Communication and Information (CCI) will host its first-ever Diversity Week from April 24 – 28. The week-long event is the culminating activity to come out of CCI’s new Office of Academic Diversity Outreach headed by coordinator Amanda Leu.

EVENT UPDATE: In front of a sell-out crowd of nearly 1,000 people, professors, entrepreneurs, administrators, students and community members gave short, dynamic talks around the theme “Rewind, Rethink, React.” Check out online conversations using @tedxkentstate and #tedxkentstate. Also, KentWired reporters wrote synopses on each of the sessions. (Photos by Alex Ledet)
