Welcome Weekend

Kent State University students will celebrate the start of a new school year at the university’s annual back-to-school celebration that occurs the day before fall classes begin. Blastoff will take place on Sunday, Aug. 27, from 6-9:30 p.m. on the Student Green and Manchester Field on the Kent Campus.

Blastoff serves as the culminating event of Welcome Weekend, a four-day orientation program that helps new students transition into the university environment.

Welcome Weekend, Kent State University’s four-day new student orientation, will take place from Aug. 24-27. Students can select from approximately 50 different events from Thursday to Sunday. The weekend event helps students transition into the university community and learn about academic and social opportunities at Kent State.

More than 500 Kent State University volunteers are preparing to welcome incoming freshmen to the Kent Campus Thursday morning.

Blastoff will take place on Sunday, Aug. 28, from 6-9:30 p.m. on the Student Green and Manchester Field on the Kent Campus.

Blastoff serves as the culminating event of Welcome Weekend, a four-day orientation program that helps new students transition into the university environment.

Welcome Weekend, Kent State University’s four-day new student orientation, took place on Aug. 25-28. Students were able to select from approximately 50 different events held from Thursday to Sunday. The weekend event helped students transition into the university community and learn about academic and social opportunities at Kent State.

Kent State University faculty, staff and students volunteered to help incoming freshmen move into the university’s residence halls at the beginning of each school year.

This year, freshman move-in day was Thursday, Aug. 25, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Last year, the Movers and Groovers program garnered 921 volunteers. Jill Church, director of Residence Services at Kent State, anticipated more than 900 volunteers again this year.

Blastoff is the university’s annual back-to-school celebration that occurs the day before fall classes begin. It serves as the culminating event of Welcome Weekend, a four-day orientation program that helps new students transition into the university environment.

Before the fall semester begins on Aug. 31, new students are invited to participate in Welcome Weekend, a four-day orientation program that will last from Aug. 27-30 and acclimate students to the Kent State University community. The event is an opportunity for students to transition into the university environment and learn about existing academic and social opportunities at Kent State.

At the beginning of the school year each August, Kent State University faculty, staff and students volunteer with the university’s Movers and Groovers program to help incoming freshmen move into their new university housing.

Freshman move-in day took place Thursday, Aug. 27, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. A host of volunteers welcomed new students and parents, and assisted with heavy lifting.
