Kent State Dance Students Highlight New Dance Works in “Awakenings”

Kent, OH – Kent State University’s School of Theatre and Dance continues its 2021-2022 production season with the B.F.A. Senior Dance Concert/Student Dance Festival: AWAKENINGS. The concert will be presented in the Erdmann-Zucchero Theatre located in the Center for the Performing Arts, 1325 Theatre Drive, Kent, OH 44242. The concert series runs Fri., March 18 and Sat., March 19 at 7:30 pm and Sun., March 20 at 2:00 pm.

The B.FA. Senior Dance Concert in collaboration with the Student Dance Festival will present nine pieces including a solo choreographed by Dance Division faculty member Erin S. Smith and performed by graduating B.F.A. Dance senior Tori Smith. The work entitled “The Best of Both Worlds” is a delightful and sassy romp synopsized by the quote, “You are what you wear.”

The Student Dance Festival will showcase eight original pieces choreographed by the University’s B.F.A. and B.A. junior and senior dance majors: Angelina DiFranco, Shuohan Feng, Mayhugh Fox, Willow Freed, Robert Miller, Sarah Seay, Hannah Stephens, and Sarah Vah. The choreographers have implemented various ways to offer the audience diverse music, including two original compositions, as well as a spectrum of movement styles and choices. Themes include explorations of relationships ranging from love and friendship to loss and isolation. This will be the first time these eight choreographers have premiered their own individual work at Kent State in a main stage concert.
