Kent State University’s School of Theatre and Dance continues its 2025-2026 season with "Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella," running Oct. 24 through Nov. 2 in E. Turner Stump Theatre, located in the Center for Performing Arts on the Kent campus.
The timeless enchantment of a magical fairy tale is reborn with the Rodgers & Hammerstein hallmarks of originality, charm and elegance. “Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella” tells the story of a kind-hearted young woman forced into servitude by her cruel stepmother and stepsisters, who dreams of a better life. With the help of her Fairy Godmother, she's transformed for one unforgettable night, attending a royal ball where she captures the heart of a prince. Originally presented on television in 1957, starring Julie Andrews, "Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella" was the most widely viewed program in the history of the medium. Its recreation in 1965 starring Lesley Ann Warren was no less successful in transporting a new generation to the miraculous kingdom of dreams-come-true, and so was a second remake in 1997, which starred Brandy as Cinderella and Whitney Houston as her Fairy Godmother.
"Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella" is being directed by Amy Fritsche, along with Assistant Director Chloe Hall, Music Director Jonathan Swoboda, and Technical Director Steve Pauna. Choreography was created by Amy Fritsche and Brian Boland. Eva Clements is the production stage manager, supported by Costume Designer Rowan Rexroad, Lighting Designer Madeline K. Barber, Sound Designer Jack Drinan, Properties Designer Jenica “Bug” Jenick and Scenic Designer Kordell Harr. Karl Erdmann serves as production manager and School of Theatre and Dance Director Tony Hardin is the executive producer.
