Dr. Terry Kuhn Distinguished Undergraduate Advising Award

Award History

The Kent State University Raymond J. Kuhn and Shirley J. Kuhn Excellence in Undergraduate Advising Award was established in 2001 by Dr. Terry Kuhn and Elizabeth Kuhn, with support from many endowment contributors.

Through direct involvement with Kent State University retention efforts, Dr. Kuhn recognized that outstanding classroom instruction and excellent academic advising are critical elements of student success. In the way that outstanding classroom instruction is recognized by the Distinguished Teacher Award (DTA), he felt that the paramount role of academic advising should also be recognized. The award was established to call attention to the quality advising for undergraduate students provided by full-time advisors and faculty advisors.

Dr. Kuhn shares that he helped create this award because “it provides a means to enhance awareness about the critical role of advising, to call attention to the excellent work being performed by academic and faculty advisors throughout the university, and, ultimately, to improve the quality of academic advising.”
