International Women's Day

Celebrate International Women's Day 2022
Wednesday, March 8 at the C.U.E.

The Women Center in collaboration with Community Engaged Learning, Gerald Reed Center and the Office of International Student Affairs are excited to host an event that aims to educate around gender equity around the globe. We have an incredible day planned as well as students who will showcase some lessons learned from other countries around gender equity.

3:00 pm - 3:30 pm Gallery
Explore International Women's Day across the world through a student created gallery showcase featuring different countries and organizations.

3:30 pm - 4:30 pm Panel Discussion
Expand your understanding of gender equity in a global context through a panel presentation including recent Kent State graduate Nasra Abubakar (Somalia), visiting scholars Adina Ionescu (Romania), Liudmyla Sokolova (Ukraine), Laylo Rahmova (Tajikistan) and Dr. Martha Merrill, Professor, Education, Health and Human Services.

4:30 pm - 6:00 pm Service Project
Take action to create gender equity in access to education on a local and global scale through our service projects including making reusable menstruation products with Days for Girls, writing notes in celebration and support of young women, and collecting period products to donate to local shelters.

#BreakTheBias Campaign

  • We are focusing on #BreakTheBias, the 2022 theme of International Women’s Day. Additional information can be found at

  • As part of #BreakTheBias campaign, we are asking members of Kent State to share their images (crossing their arms) to show solidarity in calling out gender bias. We are also encouraging statements about how you are working toward and supporting gender equity or why you believe gender equity is important. You can post #BreakTheBias image on your social media platform and tag Women Center to be entered in a drawing for some Women's Center swag.
