  • Identify inequitable policies on our campuses and community.

  • Work with the appropriate offices and individuals to change inequitable policies.

Campus Climate Working Group

Climate: The Women’s Center creates “space” for female identifying faculty and staff and graduate students to connect, celebrate and support one another across Colleges, Departments and Divisions.

  • Create ongoing opportunities to support each others professional and personal goals

  • Share best practices and challenges and Impact positive change in our communities

  • Create connection and cohesion between staff and faculty, and graduate students of all levels.

Leadership Working Group

The Women’s Center makes an intentional effort to equip our students with the tools they need to effectively lead and pursue their career goals. We offer a Women’s leadership program that will teach students how to become change agents on campus and in the world.

Committee Goals:

  • Develop initiatives to highlight the success of our leadership program participants

  • Develop initiatives to highlight the research of female faculty at Kent State University.

Mothers, Mentors and Muses Working Group

Support our Women’s Center signature celebration recognizing Kent State University woman identifying faculty and staff who have made a significant difference in the life of a student or colleague.

Committee Goals:

  • Plan this annual event celebrating current class of honorees

  • Execute and participate in the event held on the first Tuesday in April.

Ova Achievers Working Group

Challenge inequities around reproductive health access and education.

Committee Goals:  

  • Impact change on our campus and in our community around access to menstruation products

  • Raise awareness about the lack of equitable access of reproductive health resources and the impact on our communities in areas such as homelessness, incarceration, global impact, maternal mortality, sustainability, etc.

  • Change the language around menstruation to be more inclusive of all who menstruate

Sage Project Working Group

The Sage Project is a way to recognize female students who have demonstrated innovation, creativity, risk-taking and leadership skills in their academic and personal lives. Every year, We honor 10 -12 female identifying students who have overcome adversity and achieved academic success.

Committee Goals (You don’t have to participate in all components to be on the committee):

  • Market and outreach to faculty and staff to obtain nominations

  • Review Sage Project nominations and applications and select the Sage Project Class for the academic year

  • Interview Sage Honorees and write their stories

  • Assist with planning of the Sage Project Honoree Event

Meetings: TBA. Will meet 3 times a semester during the academic year

Scholarship Working Group

The Women's Center endowed scholarship fund provides $500 scholarships to two qualified Kent State University female identified undergraduate students. Since its inception, the Women’s Center Scholarship program has awarded over $11,000 to student scholarship recipients.

Committee Goals:  

  • Develop and maintain written procedures and policies for the Women’s Center Scholarship

  • Review and Select Women’s Center Scholarship award winners.

  • Maintain connection with the award winners to encourage them to participate in board events and activities.

Women of Color Initiatives

The Women of Color Collective (WoCC) was created to provide a supportive space for women of color faculty and staff at Kent State University. Through professional development,  supportive networking, emotional support and community building, WoCC seeks to advance the needs of women of color and thereby enrich their professional journeys at Kent State University. This working group will serve as the executive board for the  WoCC.

Goals

  • Develop the infrastructure and by-laws for the WoCC  

  • Develop the calendar for the group. Will contain social and professional development opportunities for women of color at Kent State University

  • Support and participate in initiatives that serve undergraduate and graduate women students of color. I.e Where Do Black Women Go?

Meetings: TBA. Working Group will meet 2-3 times a semester, WoCC will meet monthly
