The commemoration pays tribute to all who served and are serving our nation in its armed forces. An appreciation lunch for veterans, service members and their guests will immediately follow the ceremony. This event will be livestreamed for those unable to attend in person. About the Keynote Speaker
Maj. Allison Brager, Ph. D. ’11, serves as a science and technology advisor for the U.S. Special Operations Command and NATO Special Operations Headquarters. She direct commissioned into the Army in 2017 after coming to the storied Center for Military Psychiatry and Neuroscience at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (Silver Spring, Maryland) as a National Academies of Sciences research fellow.

In 2018, Brager deployed to the Middle East with the 1st Armored Division (Fort Bliss, Texas) as part of a Mental Health Advisory Team (MHAT) in support of the Global War on Terrorism. In the earliest days of the pandemic,  Brager led a humanitarian deployment to New York City with the 1st Medical Brigade (Fort Cavazos, Texas) to run the clinical lab in the field support hospital constructed within the Jacob Javits Convention Center.  Brager also served as the Army’s first-ever female commander to the Mobile Exhibit Company (est. 1936; Fort Knox, Kentucky), a fleet of semi-trucks supporting Army recruiting. Brager is presently undergoing assessment and selection to be a NASA astronaut having been a semifinalist in the NASA astronaut pipeline Class of 2020.

She received a Ph.D. from the Department of Biological Sciences at Kent State University in 2011 after completing a Bachelor of Science at Brown University in 2007. In addition to spending part of her career as a professional athlete under the Army’s World Class Athlete Program,  Brager coaches high school and collegiate track and field, having served as the long jump, high jump and pole vault coach for Cuyahoga Falls High School during her time attending Kent State University. She is a valedictorian of Youngstown-Boardman High School in Ohio and has a wife (Valerie) and two rescue dogs (Carter and Annie) who reside in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The Meet the Accountants Night Career Fair is a coordinated effort by the Career Services Office, Department of Accounting, and partnering companies seeking to hire talent for internships and full-time positions.

Prepare Before the Career Fair:

  • Plan to attend Prep Session for Meet the Accountants Night. At BAP Meeting August 28, 2024 11:30 - 1:30 p.m.
  • Research organizations participating in the fair that interest you and prepare a few questions or discussion points for the recruiters with those companies.
  • Update your resume and print plenty of copies to distribute at the career fair.
  • Craft your elevator pitch. Your elevator pitch is your quick, personal selling statement. It should include who you are, your major, a specific professional goal or interest, how you’ve demonstrated your interest and experience in your field, why you are qualified for the position OR why you want to pursue a specific graduate program, and a closing remark. Check out our tips and tricks for crafting your elevator pitch HERE!
  • Update your Handshake profile. Make sure your Handshake profile is up to date with all of your work experiences, skills, volunteer activities, student organization involvement, relevant coursework, profile photo, interests, etc. View this easy 10 step article to make sure your profile is ready to go!
  • Submit your applications before the career fair for any internship/full-time positions that match your goals. You are not required to submit applications before event and this step can be completed after the event if you like. But if you feel it’s a good match, why wait!?
  • Dress in professional attire on the day of the event. Visit the career closet in CED (Schwartz Center) to access professional attire!
    Plan your outfit ahead of time and check out suggestions HERE!

During the Career Fair:

  • Check-in and plan your route using the provided room map. Approach each recruiter with your prepared introduction and questions.
  • Hand over a copy of your resume to recruiters early in your conversation with them.
  • Collect contact information, materials, and next steps from each recruiter you connect with for following-up after the event.
  • Be brave and stay engaged! This is your big moment to build your network and interact with recruiters who want to meet you! Push yourself to meet new people and make good use of this time.

Following the Career Fair:

  • Follow up with recruiters within 24 hours that you connected with at the fair using email and LinkedIn messaging for speed and efficiency. Frame this message as a “Thank You” and express your appreciation for their time. Use this moment to express your continued interest in the opportunity. Confirm the next steps in the application process if you have questions.
  • Confirm your applications are submitted for all internship/full-time positions that match your goals.
  • Organize your contact details, notes, and interview timelines to easily track communications with recruiters regarding the next steps and interview scheduling details.

DO NOT CANCEL INTERVIEWS THAT HAVE BEEN SCHEDULED.

We expect you to follow through and complete all interviews that you have scheduled with a recruiter. Canceling (or even worse, ghosting completely) a scheduled interview is highly discouraged and very unprofessional.

Offer Acceptance Date for Students:

Employers may extend you an internship or full-time offer at any time after the career fair. As candidates are often interviewing with multiple firms + companies, we do ask employers/recruiters to allow two weeks for candidates to finalize an acceptance or submit a decline to an offer.

Who should attend?

The event is for all Ambassador Crawford College students. The firms and industry partners attending will be recruiting majors who are seeking summer internships, and graduating students who are pursuing full-time employment opportunities. Some employers may also recruit for Fall 2025/Spring 2026 internships and full-time positions.

How should you prepare?

  • Research the employers attending the event and the opportunities they have available
  • Have your resume critiqued by the Career Services Office by scheduling an appointment here

Create your own unique artwork to take home by collecting leaves and other natural materials in this hands-on workshop led by Kent State Associate Professor Taryn McMahon.

Biking: $25 per person
Bring your own bike for a journey along the scenic Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath Trail, with a pit stop at Peninsula’s PurpleBrown Farm Store to enjoy some locally grown, organic foods.

The Kent State University Museum is pleased to announce its winter exhibition, “Hildur Ásgeirsdóttir Jónsson: Micro/Macro,” a solo exhibition by Ohio-based artist, Hildur Ásgeirsdóttir Jónsson. Consistent with the museum’s mission to showcase exceptional textile art and to inspire the next generation of artists, the exhibition includes over 30 large-scale works by Kent State alumna Jónsson.

The exhibition is curated by Sara Hume, Ph.D. and will be open to the public from Friday, January 24 through August 3, 2025. A public opening reception and artist talk will be held on Thursday, January 23 at 5 p.m. at the museum.

This exhibition is sponsored by Ken Robinson. The Kent State University Museum receives operating support through a sustainability grant from the Ohio Arts Council.

Alan Canfora was one of nine students wounded on May 4, 1970, when the Ohio National Guard opened fire on Kent State students during an anti-war protest on campus. Jerry Lewis was professor of sociology at Kent State University from 1966 to 1996. He witnessed the May 4 shootings as a faculty marshal and dedicated much of his career to researching, memorializing, and lecturing about the events of May 4, 1970. This exhibit explores Lewis’ career as a teacher, academic, faculty marshal, collector and chronicler who was driven by his dedication to May 4 and passion for its preservation.

Join the May 4 Visitors Center for a vigil lantern making workshop led by Jennifer Schwartz, Assistant Professor of Art Therapy at Ursuline College. Customize a lantern, conveying your own message of peace and remembrance, to use during the May 4 Vigil on Saturday evening. This event is a drop-in experience but supplies are limited and available on a first come first serve basis.

This ticketed event is free and open to the public.

We will be going to Trail Lake Park for a beginner-friendly paddle around the lake in some kayaks! There is beautiful scenery, wildlife, and fresh air to take in while on the water. We will provide an introduction to kayaking before we get on the water going over lake safety, paddling strokes, and more! There is also an accessible kayak put-in at the docks for easy entry into your kayak.
Date & Time: Saturday, May 3 from 2 - 5 p.m.
Location: Trail Lake Park - meet at the SRWC
Cost: $30 Students, $35 Non-students
