Student Ambassadors

CCI Student Ambassadors serve as representatives for the college and all associated schools, departments, and organizations. They are responsible for student advocacy, reporting diversity and inclusion concerns, assisting with college social media initiatives, and participating in college and university recruitment activities.

Marz Anderson

Mario "Marz" Anderson Jr. is a junior journalism major. His work as a reporter varies from local interest stories to even politics. He is also a segment anchor for TV2 KSU. He plans to work as an entertainment host. Anderson defines versatility, and showcases it almost every day at Kent State.

Emma Andrus is a junior journalism student from Olmsted Falls, Ohio, with minors in both public relations and creative writing. She is heavily involved with student media through The Kent Stater and The Burr Magazine and is also a member of the Honors College. Emma is passionate about storytelling and hopes to pursue a career as a reporter or editor following graduation.

Mia Barnes '23

“The thing I like the most about Communication Studies is that it prepares you for just about every career after graduation."

Mia Barnes is a Communication Studies major who is using what she’s learning in the classroom to advocate and participate in experiences that she is passionate about. She is the Senator for the College of Communication and Information in Undergraduate Student Government and is a web content and social media intern at the non-profit Let's Grow Together.

Katie Carpenter, '23

Katie Carpenter is a junior visual communication design major from Gallipolis, Ohio. She also minors in photography, web development, and user experience design. Katie is active in the Greek community through the sorority Delta Zeta and the Order of Omega Honor Society. She is a second year CCI ambassador and loves to spread her passion for what she does.

Emily R. Fields will be a senior BFA Visual Communication Design student with a minor in Photography. Emily has spent her entire life in the arts and design industry and continues her passion through CCI. When not in a studio, you can find Emily participating in the Miss Ohio Organization or teaching dance at her home studio.

Olivia Fossesca '22

“The thing I like most about my major is the flexibility and relevance it has to everyday life."

Olivia Fossesca is a Communication Studies major who is applying what she’s learning in the classroom to her daily life at work and as a student. She is a Social Media Assistant for University Communications and Marketing where she practices hands-on skills in social media marketing and management.

Maddy Haberberger, '22

Maddy is a senior journalism major with minors in digital media production and public relations. She is highly involved with TV2 and KentWired, serving on the board as everything from anchor to producer to digital director. Maddy is an intern with NBCUniversal’s TV Entertainment division - her dream is to live and work in New York City.

Alex Hillwig is an Emerging Media and Technology major and self-professed "computer nerd" who has always loved technology and aspires to hold an IT position in a multinational company. He has two dogs and loves to mountain bike, and in his spare time likes to tinker and work on his car.

Karli Miller '23

Karli Miller is a Communication Studies major who is using what she’s learning in the classroom to make meaningful connections in the world around her. Through taking on leadership positions in her sorority, she has practiced public speaking skills and maintained positive relations both inside and outside of her chapter. 

Grace Petitjean '22

"I had never heard of a Communication Studies degree before I got to Kent State, but quickly realized it was everything I was looking for.” 

Grace Petitjean is a Communication Studies major who enjoys using the skills she's learning in the classroom to share her passions with others. She recently completed an internship with the Portage County Regional Planning Commission where she learned how essential communication skills are in a workplace environment.

Kayla Polansky is a junior public relations major at Kent State University. In addition to being a CCI Student Ambassador, Kayla also serves as the Vice President of Professional Relations on the PRSSA Executive Board. She hopes to bring her love of PR to many while serving her time as an ambassador.

Marisa Santillo is a Communication Studies major who is using what she’s learning in the classroom to take on leadership and various communication roles across campus. Her goal is to work in social media marketing. She has minors in Public Relations and User Experience Design.

Reilly Schrock discovered his passion for storytelling and filmmaking while he was studying abroad in Florence, Italy. He is a Videography Student Assistant in Kent State's Division of Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement, and he is minoring in Italian and World Literature and Cultures.

Connor Steffen is a junior broadcast journalism student at Kent State, where he serves as the current news director of TV2. Connor has spent the last three years anchoring, reporting, producing and executive producing for TV2 as well. He if from Brunswick, Ohio and when he's not working or studying, he loves hanging out with friends and watching crime shows.

Averiana West is a sophomore student at Kent's College of Communication and Information, majoring in public relations and minoring in marketing. She is hardworking and dedicated to her studies, while also being involved in multiple of our diverse groups/clubs. She has served in Kent's community for multiple years and plans to continue in the years to come.
