Solidarity Health Network

Through his internship with Solidarity Health Network, Communication Studies alumna Virgilio Glorioso, ‘23, learned how to carry out a variety of communication-related tasks for a company and how to ethically handle business.

A large part of Virgilio’s role with Solidarity Health Network was learning how to talk to retirees about benefits to their health insurance. He also worked on redesigning, critiquing and editing real webpages, and designing logo folders containing important meeting information for the company.

Virgilio feels that his experiences in the School of Communication Studies and support from his professors have successfully prepared him for this experience.

“I wouldn’t have been half as prepared for this internship if it weren’t for the amazing and wonderful professors, we have at Kent State,” he said. “My Communication Studies courses prepared me through our endless conversations in class, learning communication strategies, managing conflict, and studying relationship styles. Just about everything we learn in Communication Studies can be applied to the business world to give you an edge over everyone else. For that, I am forever grateful.”

From this internship experience, Virgilio walked away with a better understanding of his career goals and has been shown that there are more possibilities and opportunities in this career field than he previously thought.

“Solidarity Health Network has shown me the type of life and business style I always want to be a part of,” he said. “Community, good communication, teamwork, support, friendship, good ethics, morals, helping people, and leaving something or someone better off than when you found them.”
