The Golden Flashes have high expectations this season as they concluded their 2021-22 season 23-11 overall and will return with ten players from the last Golden Flashes team including five players with 14 or more starts from a season ago. The Mid-American Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll voted Kent State first for the 2022-23 season.

Two returning players, Sincere Carry and Malique Jacobs, also captured votes in the Mid-American Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. Carry is predicted to have another season in the First Team All-MAC and Jacobs was voted to join the Second Team All-MAC.

Coach Rob Senderoff finished his 11th season as Kent State's head coach after being named the Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year and ranks all-time winningest coach in program history with 219 wins.

Women's Basketball

Led by seventh-year head coach Todd Starkey, the Golden Flashes are ranked No. 20 in the preseason Mid-Major Top 25 poll that was released on Nov. 1.

Guard Katie Shumate and forward Lindsey Thall lead a veteran group that brings back six of its top seven scorers from a year ago. Shumate, an All-MAC honorable mention selection during her first two seasons as a Flash, was the team's top scorer last season at 12.1 points per game. Thall averaged 11.4 points and a career-best 5.2 rebounds per contest. The 2021 MAC honorable mention and two-time MAC All-Defensive Team selection is Kent State's career leader in three-point field goals (218) and ranks second in blocked shots (172).
