Schedule Your Classes
Get started on registering for classes! You can find the steps to register based on your level of education below. Students in an F-1 or J-1 immigration status must have a full-time course enrollment. Per the Department of Homeland Security, the extended COVID guidance allows all new F-1 and J-1 students to have a majority of remote/virtual classes. However, in their first semester students must have at least 1 in-person course.
Undergraduate international students on an F-1 or J-1 visa must have 12 credit hours total every semester. In order to schedule your classes, you must complete Destination Kent State (DKS). This is held the day after International Student Orientation every fall and spring semester. Once you attend, then you will be eligible for class registration.
If you missed DKS, please take the steps to find your academic advisor. New students may not have an advisor listed in FlashLine. If an advisor is not listed, you can find them based on your college through the button below.
Graduate students on an F-1 or J-1 visa who are studying in a master’s or doctoral program must have 8 total credit hours every semester. Although graduate students have the option of self-registration in FlashLine, we strongly recommend scheduling an appointment with your Program Coordinator prior to registering. You can find your Program Coordinator through the link provided below.
English as a Second Language Students
English Language students must have a total of 12 credit hours for the purpose of maintaining their immigration status. However, the ESL program requires that students enroll in 17 credit hours for the entire semester or 9 if you start in Module II. Before English as a Second Language (ESL) students are able to register for classes, they must take the English Placement Exam. For information on the steps to taking the placement exam, please contact the ESL Department via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. You can find dates and times for the exam and orientation at the link below.
ESL Orientation and Placement Information
Once students register for classes, a bill will be generated. Information on paying bills at Kent State can be found in the International Student Bill Payment Resource Guide, linked below.
