Andrew Konya, BS ’10, PhD candidate

Cofounder and CEO of technology startup

While a doctoral candidate in Kent State’s Liquid Crystal Institute, Andrew Konya took part in Kent State’s 2013 HacKSU hackathon, where he prototyped a technology that allows a group of people to speak as one collective voice in real time. Each group message is the result of a flash poll that takes about a minute. After developing the core algorithms to make collective speech possible, Konya turned the technology into a business called Remesh, with help from Kent State’s Blackstone LaunchPad program (now LaunchNET) and a grant from Northeast Ohio’s Innovation Fund. In addition to other potential markets, Konya envisions the platform would allow political groups to quickly and effectively reach consensus. Remesh is just one example of how our startup culture is a cut above the rest.
