Ph.D. in Translation Studies
To be considered for acceptance in the Doctoral Program in Translation, applicants must complete an application for graduate admission (forms for domestic applicants are available from Graduate Studies and for international applicants with the Office of Global Education's International Admissions), and fulfill the admission requirements (See list of application materials below) in the Doctoral Programs in Translation.

APPLICATION DEADLINE
For consideration for funding, the priority deadline for files to be completed is January 1st of each year. Applications for admission to the Doctoral Program are accepted from applicants who have completed the M.A. in Translation, an M.A. in a Foreign Language, a Master's of Business Administration or a Master's in other related disciplines with prior experience or training in languages or linguistics. Limitations of staff and space require that admission be restricted to the most promising applicants. Students are only permitted to start their programs in the Fall semester (August) of each year.

Application Materials
In addition to submitting the regular application materials, official transcripts, and application fee required by university admission procedures, departmental requirements include:
- A 3.0 or higher-grade point average in all undergraduate work and a score of 3.5 or higher in graduate work
- Graduate program minimum English requirements can be found here: https://www.kent.edu/admissions/graduate-program-english-requirements.
- Three recommendations from former professors or former employers and professional colleagues (for applicants with prior work experience)
- A statement of goals and motivations for pursuing a career in translation studies
- A sample (7-10 pages) from a research essay dealing with any aspect of translation or language; or a prospectus for a language informatics or translation studies project
- Applicants to the translation studies specialization must present proof of a graduate degree from a professional translation program, or proof of translation ability including one or more of the following: a translation portfolio, official or certifiable record of professional work experience, or professional accreditation credential.
- The Ph.D. program is normally open only to qualified individuals who can enroll as full-time students. Applicants meeting all other requirements for entry into the doctoral program may be permitted to enroll on a part-time basis as long as registration is limited to formal courses and seminars. Registration for "Research" and "Dissertation" is permitted only of full-time doctoral candidates.
