Kent State University’s Office of Sustainability and the Child Development Center partnered to create a Green Apple Day of Service on Sept. 26 where volunteers gathered to construct an eco-friendly playhouse outside the Child Development Center.   

Each year, the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) asks local schools to submit proposals stating how they could use funding to support a service project centered on the environment.

The Geologic Time Scale Walk at Kent State University at Stark puts time into perspective.

Just how long is 545 million years? About a half mile.

Our life span may last 80, 90 or 100 years at the most. And our view of historic time may get blurry beyond three or four generations. It is no wonder that Earth science scholars can be challenged by the concept of geologic eras (several 100 million years) and eons (approximately one billion years), at least until they have walked through one.

Northeast Ohio has enjoyed a beautiful fall season. But as all of us know, winter will soon arrive. One of my responsibilities as a senior vice president of the university is recommending cancellations and closures due to severe weather.

This fall, in a collaborative effort, Kent State University’s Division of Human Resources and the Department of Recreational Services offered Kent State community members the FlashFit MOVChallenge - Destination: Chicago.

Kent State University President Beverly Warren has announced that she will personally match all gifts up to a total of $25,000 for donations made to Kent State on Dec. 1, which is Giving Tuesday. Giving Tuesday is a global day of philanthropy after the Thanksgiving holiday.

Tim Rudell named best reporter in Ohio

WKSU has received 12 Ohio SPJ Awards for 2015 from Ohio chapters of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ). The competition recognized station staff for work created in 2014. The station earned more honors than any other radio station in Ohio, and reporter/producer Tim Rudell was named Best Reporter in Ohio, the second consecutive year the award went to a member of the WKSU news staff. Awards were presented during a ceremony in Cincinnati on board the Belle of Cincinnati.

The Kent State University Bookstore has announced its fourth annual Holiday Giving Tree Program. A tree is set up at the entrance to University Bookstore located in the Kent Student Center. Each ornament on the tree represents a boy or girl who is living in transitional housing in Portage County. The bookstore would like to bring a bit of holiday cheer to each child with a gift of a book.

The Allerton Apartment Complex went through its final phase of demolishment at the end of August. The process of closing the apartment complex has been going on since 2005. Buildings A, B, C and D were the final buildings to be razed.
