Biography

Professor Brown (she, her) is a professional actor, voice/movement specialist, and director. A member of Actor’s Equity, acting credits include roles at Dobama, Cleveland Playhouse,Porthouse Theatre, Rubber City Theatre, Oberlin Summer Theatre Festival, Mamai Theatre, CPT, Know Theatre of Cincinnati and Actor’s Express in Atlanta. Ensemble Studio Theatre and Stage Left Studios in NYC.

Courtney is a Certified Lessac Voice and Movement Trainer, whose creative research and pedagogical approach centers on embodied learning through a consent-forward lens. LessacKinesensic Training is a holistic approach to voice, speech and movement that offers a unique way of learning by integrating all three to deepen human behavior, communication and creativity. Currently, she serves as President of the Lessac Training and Research Institute(LTRI), and serves as a member of the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA Team).

Vocal/dialect coaching credits: "House of Blue Leaves," "Bonny and Clyde," "You Can’t Take it With You," "My Heart is the Drum," "Bus Stop," "Irena’s Vow," "Macbeth." As the resident vocal/dialect coach for Dobama Theatre for the 2017/’18 season: "Brownsville Song (B-Side For Tray)," "Sherlock Holmes: The Baker Street Irregulars," "Appropriate."

Directing credits at KSU: "Emilie: La Marquise du Châtelet Defends Her Life Tonight," "The Hunchback of Seville," "365 Days/365 Plays," "Corktown, or Through the Valley of the Dry Bones."

Professor Brown regularly presents original research at international conferences such as the Annual Lessac Conference and SETC. International teaching engagements include, Gaiety School of Acting, the National Theatre School of Ireland, and the International Porthouse Academy. She has trained extensively with SITI Company in NYC, and utilizes both The Viewpoints and Suzuki Method in her performing and teaching.

Previously, Courtney served as Assistant Professor in Voice and Movement at Texas Tech University.
