Student Government Gearing Up on East Liverpool, Salem Campuses

Healthcare professionals are in high demand and needed everywhere.

Several programs on the Salem and East Liverpool campuses have specific, individual application processes – including their own deadlines.

A team of Rising Scholars from the Kent State University Columbiana County campuses earned a spot in the finals of the NASA HUNCH culinary competition at the Johnson Space Center in Houston. The scholars will compete with teams from around the country on April 17 to determine if their culinary creation will be a future meal selection for astronauts aboard the International Space Station.

The students qualified for the trip to Texas following a preliminary competition in February at which they presented their seafood rice dish to a panel of judges, following months of research and testing.

The East Liverpool and Salem campuses are hosting Discover Kent State (DKS) open houses for learners of all ages to discover more about the programs offered locally.

Kent State University at East Liverpool is accepting nominations for its Lifetime Achievement Award, the Friends of the Kent State East Liverpool Award and its Community Partner Award. The deadline for nominations is March 29.

The Ohio Department of Education recently awarded Kent State University $1.2 million to support Choose Ohio First scholarships. This funding will support learners pursuing associate degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields and expand options for students seeking two-year degrees at the University's Regional Campuses and its College of Applied and Technical Studies.

Dr. Brad Bielski, interim dean of Kent State University at Salem, announced those students named to the Fall 2023 President’s and Dean’s lists. To qualify for the President’s List, students must have a 4.0 grade point average and must have completed 15 hours during the semester. To qualify for the Dean’s List, students must earn a 3.40 or greater grade point average and must have completed 12 or more credit hours for the semester, the majority at the Salem Campus.

The annual Kent State Salem Undergraduate Research Conference showcased students’ research projects in a variety of topic areas and allowed them to share what they learned through discussions with the academic staff.

The conference is held each year and is open to all undergraduates in any discipline and in any for-credit course on any Kent State campus. Faculty judges evaluate the presentations based on originality; significance; evidence of learning about the research and information gathering process; and overall quality.
