Biography

Eric is a Director, Dramaturg, and Assistant Professor of Theatre at Kent State University.  He holds Bachelor Degrees in Theatre and Political Theory from Michigan State University, a Master of Arts in Theatre from Texas A&M University- Commerce, and an MFA in Performing Arts from the Savannah College of Art and Design.  He is a member of the Lincoln Center Theatre Director's Lab (2012).

As a director, Eric brings an enthusiastic theatricality to his work, seeking to get to the root of "why this, why now, why here?" on any project he undertakes. Projects include Epicish at Stage Left Studios in New York, Is This Entertainment at Blank Canvas Theatre in Cleveland, The Great Conspiracy to Know Our Fathers at Burning Coal Theatre in Raleigh, and Turn Right/Turn Left: A Manual for the End of the World in Hamburg, Germany.  Eric is deeply interested in new works for diverse voices and multidisciplinary approaches.

As a dramaturg, Eric seeks to illuminate and develop new works as well as interrogating classics to reach new audiences.  Working as a production dramaturg or script consultant, Eric seeks to function as an advocate for the script itself.  Projects include ASYLUM with Only Child Aerial Theatre, projects with Loitering With Intent Theatre out of London, and numerous readings with the Mid-American Theatre Conference.

As an educator, Eric combines the study of acting and directing with somatic work to prepare students for a changing theatrical landscape.  He has taught or lectured in the United States, Czech Republic, and Thailand.  He is also a certified teacher of the Alexander Technique, which he teaches privately as well as integrating it into his work.

Eric was born and raised in Michigan, but has moved widely around the United States, from Texas to Georgia to the Carolinas.  He now lives with his wife and three cats in Warren, Ohio.
