SCHOOL OF FASHION

Fashion Design - Bachelor of Arts

The B.A. degree in Fashion Design promotes an emphasis on the diversity of studio practice and liberal art experiences. Students have the option to select coursework offerings to gain expertise in a variety of specialties that connect directly to fashion design, such as wearable technology applications, garment knitting, illustration and/or accessory design.

Fashion Design - Bachelor of Fine Arts

In the B.F.A. degree in Fashion Design, students engage in a focused-study thesis project (collection development) as a capstone experience that results in submitting their collection for formal review by faculty and industry designer-critics, followed by public presentation in a fashion venue.

Fashion Merchandising

The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Fashion Merchandising gives students a thorough background in the business aspects of the fashion industry, whereby they develop competencies in fashion theory; retail operations; management and buying; fashion forecasting and promotion; merchandising for apparel manufacturing; and the development and marketing of fashion goods.

Combined Bachelor of Science in Fashion Merchandising(B.S)/Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) 
Students in the Fashion Merchandising major have the opportunity to enroll in the combined degree program with the Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree.

Fashion Media - Minor

The Fashion Media Minor is open to Fashion Merchandising and majors from the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Fashion students complete the media track in the minor to gain a better understanding of the media and publishing industry. Journalism and Mass Communication students complete the fashion track to gain a better understanding of the fashion industry and prepare for work in fashion publishing. As part of the fashion track, Journalism and Mass Communication students are required to participate in a study-away experience in New York City through the School of Fashion.

SCHOOL OF THEATRE AND DANCE

Dance - Bachelor of Fine Arts

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance develops technically sound, intellectually diverse and creatively expressive dance artists who can contribute significantly to the art form and society. The curriculum provides students with opportunities for strong and varied technical preparation in modern dance forms, classical ballet, jazz styles, improvisation and composition as well as opportunities for performance and the presentation of original choreography.

Dance Studies - Bachelor of Arts

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Dance Studies allows students who have previous dance experience and a strong interest in another subject area, within or outside of the arts, the opportunity to combine the two into one degree option. The curriculum provides students with a solid foundation in dance techniques and dance academics while allowing flexibility to incorporate another area or minor.  Kent State also offers a minor in Dance.

Musical Theatre - Bachelor of Fine Arts

The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Musical Theatre prepares students for life as working artists in the musical theatre field. Practical training and creative experiences are coupled with an interdisciplinary liberal arts curriculum and a foundation in theatre history, analysis and criticism.  Students will be able to study and perform in the school’s theatrical and dance productions.

Theatre Design, Technology and Production - Bachelor of Fine Arts

The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Theatre Design, Technology and Production fosters the artistic development of theatre designers, technicians and artisans. Students study both traditional theatre practices and new methods, materials and technologies. Students must demonstrate continued progress through annual portfolio reviews, course work and production responsibilities.

Theatre Studies - Bachelor of Arts

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre Studies gives students an opportunity for study in all aspects of theatre and its relationship to other liberal arts studies. This program serves students who seek a wider range of possibilities to fulfill individual creative goals, whether as theatre artists, scholars, educators and/or contributors in related fields. Students receive thorough grounding in theatre history and theory and learn imaginative and critical thinking, the process of making theatre, and leadership skills.  Kent State also offers a minors in Theatre and Social Change, Theatre Management, Theatre Performance, and Theatre Sound.

SCHOOL OF MUSIC

The School of Music is a vibrant destination of choice for a Life in the Arts. We strive to be the best at integrating, teaching, advising, researching, and practicing our craft so that our students find their voice in the world. At the Hugh A. Glauser School of Music, we provide a nourishing yet challenging environment for student success. We offer performing opportunities in a wide range of ensembles including orchestra, choirs, bands, jazz bands, chamber groups, new music ensemble, and world music ensembles.

Music - Bachelor of Arts

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Music gives music majors an opportunity to study music and liberal arts with an optional minor, available in most academic areas of the university, or as a dual degree program with a major in another field. Although not as music intensive as the Bachelor of Music degree, the B.A. degree includes study on a main instrument and ensemble participation throughout the program.  The Music major includes two optional concentrations:  Contemporary Popular Music and Jazz Studies

Music - Bachelor of Music

The Bachelor of Music degree in Music is a professional degree. The primary emphasis is on the development of the skills, concepts and sensitivity essential for those wishing to pursue music as a profession.  The Music major comprises the following concentrations:  Compositions, Instrumental Performance, Piano Performance, and Voice Performance.

Music Education - Bachelor of Music

The Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education prepares students for Ohio licensure to teach music in grades K-12 in choral general and instrumental music. The program includes studies in jazz, folk, musical theatre, world music and music technology, while providing a strong grounding in Western art music history, theory and performance.  The Music major comprises the following concentrations:  Choral General and Instrumental.

Minors

The school of music has minor programs in Audio Recording, Jazz Studies, Music, Music Technology, and World Music.
