The cover of the 1931 Kent State songbook. The original manuscripts were edited and in part arranged by students in Advanced Harmony (Music 332) during the spring quarter of 1931. The cover of the 1951 Kent State songbook. Lyrics and music for the selections were written or composed by Kent State students and faculty members. They were selected and edited by members of a student/faculty committee appointed by President George Bowman. Members of the Men’s Glee Club, directed by Bruce Handley, stand on stage in a photo that appears on page 70 of the 1939 Chestnut Burr. The first concert given by a men’s glee club at Kent State College was in 1929, with 19 members. The first full program by the glee club took place in 1934, with Fred Denker directing 25 members.
