Kent State's I Promise Students Are Proud of LeBron James' Awesome Milestone

When LeBron James sank a 21-foot turnaround jumper in the third quarter of the Lakers vs. Thunder Game Tuesday night, he reached a milestone that made students in Kent State's I Promise Scholars Program proud. James broke Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's NBA scoring record.

In 2020, Kent State provided the opportunity for a college education to all eligible students in the LeBron James Family Foundation's (LJFF) oldest I Promise Network class by guaranteeing four years of tuition and one year of room and meal plan.

The tuition program was the culmination of an existing partnership between Kent State and the LJFF in which I PROMISE students attend summer enrichment college preparation programs at the university; those existing programs have continued.

The I Promise Scholars witnessed through James' milestone how hard work and perseverance pay off. Three of the scholars, Akron residents Daysi Alvarado-Sandoval, Don'Marie Reid and Corina Weems-Porter, took time out of their busy schedules at Kent State to let James know just how much they admire his accomplishment.
