Construction Management students from the College of Architecture and Environmental Design presented a project at the 2019 Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA) Convention. Out of 50 nationally ranked schools that presented their project, the Kent State student team took 8th place. This year’s project was a renovation of Indiana University’s Memorial Football Stadium. Eleven students from the College of Architecture and Environmental Design attended the National Association of Homebuilders Competition (NAHB) in Las Vegas. Our team of students represented Kent State by placing 7th out of 37 nationally ranked schools. Freshman and sophomore construction management students attended the University of Cincinnati (UC) New Builders Competition and took 1st place for the second year in a row. The project for this year challenged students to create an all encompassing plan for the Mercy Health Hospital's Free Standing Emergency Department. Students were asked to create a project management plan, estimate, schedule, safety plan, logistics plan and quality control plan. Landscape Architecture at Kent State was celebrated at the Ohio Chapter ASLA (OCASLA) annual meeting on April 19 in Dublin, Ohio. Two faculty nominated graduate students presented to a jury made up of three ASLA professionals. Both students were recognized by the OCASLA for their work at the annual meeting awards ceremony.  Anna Enderle was awarded the Ohio ASLA Student Merit Award for her capstone. Colloidal particles functionalized with DNA open new strategies for colloidal self-assembly. Particles can be coated with one or more DNA “sticky ends” that can be programmed to hybridize at different temperatures. Particles can be either uniformly coated with DNA or coated on well-defined patches with different "valence". Of these, valence 2, which form chains, and valence 4, which coordinate tetrahedrally, are particular interesting. In addition, we also make Janus particles with varying patch size.
