There are three ways to learn about any delays, class cancellations or campus closings:
The Washington Program in National Issues (WPNI) is more than your average internship program. Each spring, a cohort of roughly 20 Kent State juniors and seniors heads to Washington, D.C., to participate in a variety of internships. Students from all majors are encouraged to apply, from journalism to mathematics. WPNI helps students secure internships in a variety of areas including government agencies, nonprofits or news organizations, among others. While completing this internship, students also partake in a public policy seminar with WPNI Program Director Mark Cassell, Ph.D. Through b...

Kent City Manager Dave Ruller remembers well the day in late 2006 when he met Kent State University’s then-President Lester A. Lefton at the Franklin Square Deli to talk about downtown Kent. “It was the famous turkey sandwich lunch meeting,” he recalled. Lefton, known for his no-nonsense, sometimes gruff manner, didn’t mince his words, Ruller said. He pointed to whole blocks of downtown and pronounced them “a piece of crap.” Ruller said Lefton, who served from 2006 to 2014, made it clear that he wanted Kent State to be a great university and could not do tha...

“Are you a math person?” That’s a question Dana Miller-Cotto, Ph.D., an assistant professor in Kent State's Department of Psychological Sciences, asked at the beginning of her presentation at the recent Research & Innovation Forum, sponsored by the university's Science of Learning Education (SOLE) Center and the Division of Research and Sponsored Programs (RASP). She asked forum attendee...

My name is Ruth Morara and I am in the class of 2026. My major is Conservation Biology. I honestly feel more like Kent chose me than the other way around! I am Kenyan-American but my family lives in Kenya, and so have I for the past 12 years. The exchange rate between our currencies made my dream of studying in the US look impossible. However, several staff at Kent State reached out and connected me to resources which could help me bypass this financial obstacle. Within a couple of weeks, I was met with a plethora of financial aid; far higher than any offered by the other universities t...
On the night of Feb. 3, about 50 cars of a freight train operated by Norfolk Southern Railway derailed in a fiery crash on the outskirts of East Palestine, a tiny village in northeastern Ohio, nestled near the state line with Pennsylvania. Ten of the derailed cars were transporting hazardous materials, five of which contained vinyl chloride, a highly volatile colorless gas produced for commercial uses. Since then, there have been many reports about the evacuation of nearby residents, the cleaning and environmental testing that are still underway and political coverage of governmental...
