    Biography

Research Interests: Policing; Program Implementation and Evaluation; Emerging Adulthood and Crime: Life-Course Criminology

My research in policing examines program implementation and evaluation as well as community perceptions of police. Currently, I am partnering with the Baltimore Police Department and the University of Baltimore to evaluate the pilot program of the Neighborhood Policing Plan public safety initiative.

My research also focuses on the transition to adulthood and desistance from crime. I completed a study partnering with community-based agencies who serve young adults, conducting narrative interviews with young adults engaging in the process of desistance. I am building this work into a book titled Growing Up and Out of Crime: Desistance, Maturation, and Emerging Adulthood (link) which is expected for publication in 2024 by Routledge. My next phase of research in this area focuses on the role of meaningful employment and education for desistance. This work is being funded by the Russell Sage Foundation's Pipeline Initiatives Grant (link).

I am excited to work with both graduate and undergraduate students at Kent State and welcome any inquiries from current and prospective students.
