The 2023-24 academic year has been a life-changing one for Raiful Hasan, Ph.D., an assistant professor of computer science in the College of Arts and Sciences, who embarked on his first faculty position at Kent State last semester.

Alex Moir is one of many students who participated in the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) program in 2023. Alongside mentor Lauren Vachon, the two were determined to investigate Ohio’s LGBTQ history and were led to the story of Georgia Hopley through a tip from an archivist at Ohio History Connection (a non-profit historical society) of a possible undocumented queer romance.

Two teams prepare to face-off at Kent State Golden Flash Legal Class competition

On January 20, Kent State University welcomed over 120 college students from across the region to its “Golden Flash Legal Clash,” a two-day collegiate mock trial invitational held in the Kent Student Center. Proceeds from the event helped to raise funds for future events that Kent State’s Mock Trial teams plan to attend. The 10 student teams, including some from out-of-state, competed in four rounds. Teams from Case Western Reserve University finished first and second with third place going to a team from William & Mary. The opening and closing ceremonies were held in the Kent State Governance Chambers.
