Join us on October 10 for the Ambassador Crawford College of Business and Entrepreneurship Student Involvement Fair!

 The fair offers students the opportunity to explore and engage with student organizations in the Ambassador Crawford College of Business and Entrepreneurship. Students will have a chance to network with peers,  learn how to join a student organization, and explore opportunities to develop leadership and enhance communication skills.

 

Nearly 1,000 families are registered to attend Kent State's Parent and Family Appreciation Weekend Sept. 20-22. We are seeking volunteers to help assist with check-in, escorting families around campus and at the paint and sip and bingo events. Sign up for a shift using the form below.

Mark your calendars for Friday, Oct. 11, at 6 p.m. (National Coming OUT Day), and join us in downtown Kent for the Kent Rainbow Weekend Drag Race 5K. Race registration is currently $30, and prices will increase on Sept. 16. All proceeds will benefit the Kent State LGBTQ+ Emergency Fund. Participants are invited, but not required, to wear their best drag look as they walk, stroll, run or roll their way along the 5K route.

The Biennial Alumni Exhibition seeks to bring together and highlight the wide array of talented alumni throughout the eighty-plus year history of the School of Art. 

This years' (inaugural) juror is Wendy Earle, Curator, Akron Art Museum. The show will be on display January 17th through February 21st in the CVA Gallery (325 Terrace Drive, Kent, Ohio). 

Opening Reception: Jan.17, 5-7 p.m.

Join us for a forum discussion with three leading experts in Biodesign from different arenas. Daniel Grushkin, TômTex Inc. and founder of Biodesign Challenge; Elda Hegmann, Ph.D., Kent State University; and Britta Bielak, NCIDQ, Kent State University, will speak on their pathway to this field and join in a conversation moderated by Sarah Eichler, Ph.D., Kent State University. We’ll be exploring perspectives on biodesign from biotechnology to liquid crystals to architectural design.

The conference is free to attend, but advance registration is required. A limited number of sponsorship opportunities are available for those interested in supporting the forum.

Proceeds from the event will support students and programs in the Environmental Science and Design Research Institute (ESDRI) and its undergraduate fellows program.

Alan Canfora was one of nine students wounded on May 4, 1970, when the Ohio National Guard opened fire on Kent State students during an anti-war protest on campus. Explore Canfora’s incredible collection of materials documenting his lifelong commitment to activism, advocacy and remembrance of those wounded and killed on May 4, 1970, including the large part he played in the May 4 Task Force (M4TF).

The Jerry M. Lewis May 4 Lecture Series and Luncheon was created to honor the legacy of Jerry M. Lewis Emeritus Professor of Sociology and advance the scholarship of May 4, 1970 and the Vietnam War era.

The lecture and luncheon, now in its fourth year, will feature Jennifer Mapes, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Geography, who will present “It Was Time for Me to Go Home”: Finding Shared Humanity in the May 4 Oral History Collection and Community Geography. This ticketed event is free and open to the public.

Join author David Paul Kuhn for a discussion of his book "The Hardhat Riot: Nixon, New York City, and the Dawn of the White Working-Class Revolution."

Kuhn will be joined by historians Thomas Grace, Ph.D., Mary Ann Heiss, Ph.D., and Gregory Wilson, Ph.D., for a moderated panel exploring the significance of the 1970 Hardhat Riot and its lasting impact. Together, the panel will examine the intersection of protest, politics, and class conflict—then and now—drawing connections between historical events and present-day divisions in American society.
