Writing Center

Kent State Columbiana Writing Center

Serving the Salem and East Liverpool campuses
Our goal is to produce better writers, not just better writing!

We help:

  • Any Student
  • Any Level
  • Any Discipline
  • Any Writing Project
  • Any Stage of the Writing Process: prewriting, drafting, revision, documentation (APA, MLA, etc.), and editing (finding later-order-concern errors).

Current Appointment Types:

In-Person Appointment (Salem Campus):

Meet with a tutor at the Salem campus for a face-to-face session.  In-person appointments are currently limited to certain days of the week, but Email Feedback and Live Video Meeting (Google Meet) appointments remain as an option Monday-Saturday.

Email Feedback Appointment:

Send your paper to us with assignment information and a tutor responds and sends it back to you during their scheduled time.

Live Video Meeting (Google Meet)

Sign up for a real time appointment with a tutor by selecting an open time on the Scheduler. Much like an in-person session, your tutor will collaborate with you to improve your writing skills. You will need to be on your Kent State University Gmail account for the duration of the appointment. Your tutor will guide you through the chat and video functions during your session.

Will the tutor “fix” my paper?

Tutors follow both best practices in tutoring and Kent guidelines that require YOUR individual work. While this is not an editing service, tutors WILL help you to make choices about your paper. In the long run, this will make you a stronger writer.
