Instructor Guidance
In the event of a positive case, instructors will be informed of the case if one of their classes has been impacted. However, all information regarding contract tracing, student exposure notifications and the like will be sent by either a public health official and or the university.
Students in Quarantine/Isolation
If students are required to be in quarantine or isolation for up to 21 days, we encourage you to be flexible with assignments, exams or other class obligations that a student has to do during that time period. In particular, if it is a face-to-face class, review the Guide to Handling Student Absences Due to a Minor Illness on different ideas for being flexible.
If it is not possible for a student to complete all their requirements for a course before the end of the term of instruction, we encourage instructors to consider giving students an Incomplete grade.
Instructors in Quarantine/Isolation
If an instructor who is scheduled to teach face-to-face must quarantine or isolate, they may consider a short-term use of distance education technology. Before doing so, the instructor must notify their academic unit administrator to discuss the proposed approach, the plan for students, and the method of communication that will be used to inform students.
Instructors are responsible for clearly notifying students of the selected option and for explaining any strategies that will be used to remediate missed class time, if applicable. Any use of distance education technology in place of face-to-face instruction must be limited strictly to the quarantine or isolation period and should not extend beyond that timeframe.
