Kent State Ashtabula will be hosting their 4th annual Ohio Science Olympiad workshop for middle and high school students to practice for their events. With our instructors and professors, participants study science topics relating to events in which they will compete at the regional, state and national level. This year’s event also includes a keynote speaker, Dr. Tara C. Smith, from the College of Public Health at Kent State University. Her speech, titled “Ebola and Emerging Diseases: Why we’ll always have pandemics,” will begin at 11:00 AM. The event begins at 9:00 AM and ends at 1:50 PM. Like most 17-year-olds, Selinda Floss is preparing for her upcoming graduation. But unlike most students her age, her graduation includes a bachelor's degree in criminology and justice studies from Kent State University at Ashtabula.

In response to this situation, Kent State University’s College of Applied and Technical Studies last year launched its Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program, aimed at addressing these significant challenges with a concentration on rural social work – a recognized need in areas where many of the Kent State Regional Campuses are located.
