Program Information

WHICH SMOKING CESSATION PROGRAM IS OFFERED?

We utilize the American Lung Association’s Freedom From Smoking® program. This is a comprehensive program that addresses not only the benefits of living smoke-free, but also offers many proven techniques to help you succeed in becoming and staying smoke-free.

HOW DOES THE PROGRAM WORK?

There are 8 sessions in the Freedom From Smoking program that take place over 7 weeks. The program will take you through the quitting process step by step. This includes identifying your motivation for quitting and the triggers that make you want to smoke, setting a quit date, learning how to deal with stress, and planning to prevent relapse.

ARE ALL SESSIONS CONDUCTED AS A GROUP?

The group setting is beneficial because students are able to identify with the experiences of others. However, we do offer sessions with one or two students if the group sessions do not fit into your schedule.

WHERE WILL THE SESSION BE HELD?

Sessions are held at the DeWeese Health Center on the Kent campus. If there is a group that wishes to participate elsewhere, arrangements may be made to accommodate your request.

HOW DO I ENROLL?

You may call or email the Freedom From Smoking® facilitator. Contact: Scott Dotterer at University Health Services/Office of Health Promotion @ 330-672-8266 or via email: sdottere@kent.edu .

IS THERE A FEE FOR THE PROGRAM?

There is NO fee for the smoking cessation program. All participants will receive a folder that contains a Freedom From Smoking Participant Workbook, CD (Relaxation Exercises for Better Breathing), and other educational support materials to assist in the quitting process.
