The Hannah and Jan Kirkland Memorial Scholarship

From Touch Point Online Magazine, Spring 2021 – Vol. V, Issue 1

The Hannah and Jan Kirkland Memorial Scholarship provides tuition relief to nursing students from Columbiana county. The scholarship was created by Sally Kirkland to honor the lives of her late daughter Jan, and her late granddaughter Hannah. This generous scholarship will provide students with the much-needed support while also serving as a living memorial for both Jan and Hannah.

Jan attended Kent State University and was part of the BSN program prior to transferring to another institution to complete her degree. During her time at KSU, she learned the basics of what it means to be a nurse. After transferring from Kent to Mercer University where she earned her BSN, Jan thrived as a nurse working in pediatric units, rehabilitation units for surgery patients and ultimately working as the Director of Nursing at Caring People Home Healthcare. She was a passionate and thoughtful leader whose drive and compassion touched the lives of countless patients.

Jan’s daughter Hannah was studying to be a nurse in Florida at the time of her passing. She carried the same compassion and empathy that led her mother to be so successful in nursing. Hannah’s warmth and caring nature were felt every day and she was eager to uses these traits as a nurse.

This scholarship serves to commemorate the lives of both Jan and Hannah. If you would like to make a contribution to the Hannah and Jan Kirkland Memorial Scholarship, please visit http://ksu.convio.net/kirkland
