Undergraduate Student Government Meeting Oct. 25

Kent State University's Undergraduate Student Government represents the undergraduate student body. On Oct. 25, student government welcomed members of Hillel and Students for Justice in Palestine for both student groups to present their concerns about the Israel-Hamas war in a respectful environment. One of the main conversation points among the students was a lack of response from student government. Students and members of both groups want to know where the organization stands concerning the Israel-Hamas war. Students for Justice in Palestine urged Undergraduate Student Governm...

Osikiewicz poses with students during DTA surprise visit

For Jeffrey Osikiewicz, Ph.D., the teaching experience feels like a domino effect, one element leads to another to yet another. “If you come in as an instructor and you really like what you're doing, you enjoy the classroom. You enjoy the class and the students pick up on it,” Osikiewicz said. “They give it back to you. It goes for every classroom, and it makes for a beautiful experience.”   Osikiewicz, associate professor of mathematical science at Kent State University at Tuscarawas, believes this teaching/domino effect creates a bond between him and his students.  Osi...

November 1, 2023   Dear students, faculty and staff, I’m writing to share with you that an act of vandalism was recently discovered at our campus, and that the damage included a drawing of a racist symbol etched in a bathroom stall. We have no way of knowing when this incident occurred. What we do know is that vandalism, particularly when it involves hateful and racist words or symbols, and the people who carry it out, have no place in our values-based Kent State community, which includes kindness and respect in all we do. I want to thank those who noticed and r...

BSN students and faculty stopping in the Badlands of South Dakota

The following reflective essay was written by Lorene Martin, Bachelor of Science in Nursing program director at Kent State Salem and fulltime faculty member. In what has become somewhat of an annual pilgrimage, she organizes these trips to help expand her students’ view of discrepancies in our country’s healthcare system, as well as the extreme differences in social, economic and cultural opportunities among those living in the United States. As our society becomes increasingly more diverse every day, understanding cultural differences is an important skill for success in both the car...
