Kent State students welcomed parents and families to campus last weekend, beginning on Thursday, for four days of activities. Visitors enjoyed athletic events, museums, college open houses, a movie night, Q&A with Jaden Smith, the Black Squirrel Festival, the downtown Kent Rocks! Music Festival and a special parents and families tailgate before the football game. The hosting East Liverpool High School Potters claimed the victor’s plaque for the third time following their match up with the Salem High School Quakers in the annual Kent State Volleyball Classic on Saturday, Sept. 17. The day featured freshman, JV and varsity games between the cross-county rivals, with East Liverpool winning the varsity match-up 25-19, 18-25, 25-10, 25-9. East Liverpool also won the freshman and JV contests. Kathryn Burns is an upperclassman who transferred to Kent State during the pandemic. Last academic year, she became a fellow within the Environmental Science and Design Research Institute (ESDRI) at KSU, which falls under the Division of Research and Sponsored Programs (RASP). The NIL Nest is a comprehensive plan to empower student-athletes to maximize their Name, Image and Likeness as well as enhance and protect their personal brand and gain the essential tools to navigate financial opportunities.
