Being in the right place at the right time couldn't be truer for Howland High School graduate Kayliegh Crumb. Ms. Crumb, a broadcast journalism major, recently completed her third year at Kent State and an internship at State and Federal Communications, located in Akron, Ohio. The internship came about from a scholarship she earned in 2016 - the Elizabeth Z. Bartz Scholarship for Howland Tigers, which was created earlier that year by Ms. Bartz, a Howland graduate and President and CEO of State and Federal Communications. Like Ms. Bartz, Ms. Crumb took classes ...

Without the great people across the university landscape who put together great events with us, let us talk to their classes, and generally support the work we do at LaunchNET to spread the message of entrepreneurial thinking, we wouldn't be able to do all the cool stuff we do! So this month we decided to profile one of our favorite university partners, Jackie Ruller (Assistant Dean, External Affairs for College of Aeronautics and Engineering). Jackie has done so much to promote LaunchNET to the students in the College of Aeronautics and Engineering that we gave her our University Part...

Being hunted by unseen predators isn’t the way most researchers conduct their work. But for some, it’s just part of the day. “The animals that most concerned me were the large cats, like jaguars and pumas, but also snakes and monkeys,” said Emmaleigh Given, Kent State University aquatic ecology graduate student. “The workers told me that the jaguars would hide from people, but the pumas would hunt you quietly.” Ms. Given recently spent three summers and two winters in a remote biological reserve in the middle of the rainforest in the Alajuela Province of Costa Rica, where she has a...
Enology students of Kent State University’s Ashtabula Campus are leaving a lasting impact with their high-quality luxury wines. While crews worked to repair the retaining wall around the front lawn of the Carnegie Library, Kent State University’s East Liverpool Campus was invited to place a time capsule in the wall’s corner pillar, closest to the Mary Patterson Building. Employees from the library earlier placed a time capsule in the opposite end of the wall and, as a good neighbor, invited Kent State to preserve a bit of its history in like manner. Kent State used PVC pipe, securely sealed, for its time capsule holding an assortment of photos, documents, logo items and a t-shirt. Cutline: With the Kent St...
