DEI offers a variety of scholarship opportunities for students enrolled at all Kent campuses. Scholarship awards are based on demonstrated financial need.

Below is a list of current scholarships offered by the division.


DEI Scholarship

  • This scholarship is awarded to students who are in good academic standing with the university. To be eligible applicants must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at studentaid.gov. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate financial need as determined by the FAFSA. We recommend checking with your college, advisor, and One Stop for other scholarships before applying for this scholarship. This fund is used only after all other options are exhausted.
  • Multiple awards of $500.
  • Class Standing: FR, SO, JR, SR, Masters

Student Persistence Award (Lester A. Lefton Persistence Award)

  • This scholarship is awarded to students who are rising juniors or seniors at Kent State University. To be eligible applicants must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at studentaid.gov.  Additionally, applicants must demonstrate financial need as determined by the FAFSA.
  • Multiple awards of $500.
  • Class Standing: JR, SR
  • Application period for Academic Year 24-25 is open.
  • Scholarships are awarded in August-September of each year.
  • Scholarship application found on Scholarship Universe.

Ramos Chesnes Family Scholarship

  • This scholarship was established by Sharlene and Mark Chesnes on behalf of their family, three members of which have graduated from Kent State University, and their overall commitment to higher education and diversity. To be eligible applicants must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at studentaid.gov. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate financial need as determined by the FAFSA.
  • Class Standing: JR, SR
  • Application period for Academic Year 24-25 is open. 
  • Scholarships are awarded in August-September of each year.
