Leadership Development

One of the top priorities in Academic Affairs is to nurture leadership and support succession planning.  Currently, have we hold annual competitions to send women faculty and administrators to the HERS (Higher Education Resource Services) Institute, and host three fellows for the Mid-American Conference Academic Leadership Development Program (MAC-ALDP).

HERS (Higher Education Resource Services) Institute
  • Each Fall, Academic Affairs asks for Deans to nominate outstanding women to attend the HERS (Higher Education Resource Services; http://hersnetwork.org/) Institute in either Denver or Bryn Mawr.  HERS Institutes (http://hersnetwork.org/network/the-hers-network/) provide an intensive 12-day, residential program that prepares women faculty and administrators for institutional leadership roles.  Academic Affairs will sponsor up to three women to attend each year.  Kent State as a whole has sponsored 13 women to attend HERS over the last 5 years.  Learn more about our attendees and their experiences.

Mid-American Conference Academic Leadership Development Program (MAC-ALDP)
  • Kent State University is proud to be a member of the MAC.  The MAC-ALDP is a professional development program, created as a collaboration between the 12 MAC schools and the MAC.  Each year, the program selects group of three faculty and administrators from each MAC school to develop, prepare, and enhance their ability to be effective academic leaders. ALDP features opportunities for faculty and leadership to work together on their home campuses and to come together in two workshops.  Kent State University hosted the inaugural workshop in Fall, 2017, and subsequent workshops have been held each Fall and Spring.   Learn more about our fellows and their experiences and see the MAC program announcement.
