Kent State Provost Announces Reappointment of Sonia Alemagno as Dean of the College of Public Health

August 19, 2016

It is my pleasure to announce that following a rigorous review, Sonia Alemagno, Ph.D., has been reappointed to a second five-year term as dean of the College of Public Health, beginning July 1, 2016. Please join me in thanking committee chair Dean John Crawford-Spinelli, Ed.D., and review committee members Eric Jefferis, Ph.D., Tara Smith, Ph.D., Michael Tubergen, Ph.D., Wendy Umberger, Ph.D., and Chris Sonia AlemagnoWoolverton, Ph.D., for their excellent service on this administrative review committee.

The committee's report included the following concerning Dr. Alemagno's overall performance as dean of Kent State's newest college:

"Dean Alemagno is seen as a fair and open minded administrator who advocates equitably for all programs within the college. She is also viewed as a positive contributor to the morale of the college environment."

One survey respondent stated the following:

"Dean Alemagno's most immediate vision and directions for the college were to build this new college, established in 2009, as a full service public health academic institution that would achieve full accreditation when eligible. This has not only happened, but [the college] has achieved an initial accreditation for a five-year term which is an ideal outcome. Her leadership and incredibly hard work were instrumental in this accreditation achievement."

I fully agree with these assessments and conclude by thanking Dean Alemagno for her outstanding service and dedication to the College of Public Health and Kent State University.

Please join me in congratulating Dean Sonia Alemagno on her reappointment as dean of the College of Public Health.
