Psychology Advising

Students majoring in psychology have the option to see professional advisors in the Department of Psychological Sciences (Kent Hall 144) or in the College of Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Advising Office (Bowman 105).

Advising in the Department of Psychological Sciences is generally by appointment, either online or in-person. However, psychology students may stop by Kent 144 to see if an advisor is available for a quick question.

You are able to meet with advisors for the following purposes:
•    General advising questions regarding the psychology major or minor
•    Planning classes for next semester
•    Review and update your GPS plan
•    Ensure you are on track to graduate
•    Interpret general University policies and procedures (e.g., Kent Core requirements)
•    Answer questions about a major change within the College of Arts & Sciences
•    Acquire information about campus and academic resources

In addition, students may meet with the Academic Program Coordinator, Debra Penberthy or Dr. Joel Hughes to begin to explore graduate school and career options.

Pre-Medicine Psychology Majors

Students in the BS Psychology, Pre-med/Pre-Podiatry concentration are encouraged to book with Erin Lawson ( in the College of Arts and Sciences Advising Office, or Dr. Jill Folk (; Cognitive Psychology Faculty), or Dr. Joel Hughes ( Clinical Psychology Faculty).

Scheduling an Advising Appointment

Kent State University offers various ways to connect with an academic advisor, and we are piloting a new system to schedule your academic advising appointments. The new KSU Navigate system is designed to enhance your student advising experience. We are excited to have you as part of the new launch and allow you to provide feedback on how we might enhance the system moving forward.
