Batman is coming to Kent State University.

In fact, so are Birdman, Betelgeuse and Vulture.

Oscar-nominated actor Michael Keaton will return to the campus he once walked as a student while dreaming about making it big in Hollywood. The leading man who has inspired millions in iconic roles on the big screen will now inspire thousands of new Kent State graduates as he delivers the commencement address May 12 during Kent State’s university-wide Commencement ceremony.

Kent State University held its Fall Commencement ceremonies for the Kent Campus on Friday, Dec. 15, and Saturday, Dec. 16, at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center (MAC Center). Kent State conferred 2,320 degrees, including 1,824 bachelor’s degrees, 456 master’s degrees, 37 doctoral degrees and three educational specialist degrees.

Across the university’s eight-campus system, 2,981 students graduated from Kent State this fall, including those receiving associate degrees.

Kent State conferred 1,422 degrees, including 908 bachelor’s degrees, 427 master’s degrees, 67 doctoral degrees and 20 educational specialist degrees.

The music echoed a pronounced, loud drumbeat as 400 female graduates marched step-by-step to the cadence of the drumbeat, down a very long entryway right up to the very edge of the stage.

“It was the most dramatic ceremony I’ve ever seen,” said Kent State University’s President Beverly Warren. “These powerful women marching directly toward us to the beat of this powerful music, as if to say, ‘get ready, world. Here we come!’ It gave me the chills. I’ll remember that moment for a very long time.”
