FlashLine

Overview

KSUview provides a way for a student to grant permission to a designee to view selected student information.  The student controls who is granted access and which items can be viewed.  Designees will have pin access to view selected items.  Parents, step-parents, guardians, spouses and partners are given their own FlashLine credentials.

Access

The student can designate access to a selected individual by logging into FlashLine and clicking on Student Profile and selecting KSUview.  Items are then selected and a date range can be specified.  The designee will receive an email with instructions on how to access KSUview.

Viewable Items

The list of viewable items follows.  Note that there are only 2 items that designees can act upon—paying the enrollment fee and registering the student for Destination Kent State.

The Graduation Planning System is comprised of multiple modules, as described below:

  • Explore Programs and Degrees: This option is available:

    • from the Kent Homepage, by clicking on the Explore Major and Degrees link

    • Within FlashLine

Please type in the Search Box (found at the top) : GPS

(if not found move to Step 2)

  • GPS Audit and Plan:

    • This option is only available from within FlashLine

-On the Student Resources, under Advising

  • The GPS Audit and Plan is for students with a Catalog Year of 2010 and beyond. Students with a Catalog Year 2009 or earlier will continue to use the KAPS audit.  If you see the screen below, you should use KAPS.

  • Catalog Year represents the requirements determining the student's degree plan.  Students who are unclear what Catalog Year they are under should contact their advisor. Your advisor is displayed in the Academic Profile area of your Student Dashboard.  If no advisor is displayed, please contact your college/campus office.

The GPS degree audits assist students and advisors in monitoring timely progress toward completion of their degree requirements in the student’s officially declared program.  For additional information, please contact your academic advisor.

TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS

  • Effective 5/28/13, students no longer have edit access to plans. You may view your plan and audit at any time and can continue to run a "What If" audit for other programs you may be interested in.  If your plan needs to be updated or modified please contact your academic advisor for assistance.

  • Please turn off your popup blocker for best results.

  • Make sure there are no special characters in your password (&, +, $, etc.).  If you still can't access, contact the Helpdesk at 330-672-4357.

  • Student record data is updated nightly.  Always “process new” before running an audit in order to view the most current student information.  If you receive an error that says "Status = 4235," click "Process New."

  • There are no audits for students with catalog years prior to 2010.  Those students’ audits will be in KAPS.

  • If a PC is being used to access the GPS Audit and Plan, the recommended browser is Internet Explorer.  If a Mac is used, the browser should be Safari.

  • GPS web page with lots of information:  www.kent.edu/gps/plan.  This also includes the student and advisor manuals.

  • If you receive and Error: 0719, call the Helpdesk at 330-672-4357 for assistance.

For a listing of the criteria for placement into University Writing Courses, please visithttps://www.kent.edu/english/writingprograms/placement.cfm.

After the initial placement, if students feel they should be placed in a higher level English course, they have an opportunity to challenge their initial placement.  If you want to be in the course that will help you most, you need to know the purposes of the different courses, how you are initially placed in a course on the basis of the chart located at the link above, and how you can challenge that placement if you think it is inaccurate.

If you wish to challenge your writing placement:

Step 1. Log into FlashLine from http://www.kent.edu

Please type in the Search Box (found at the top) : Writing Challenge or Placement Assessment

(if not found move to Step 2)

Step 2. Under Student Resources, select Placement Assessments

Step 3. Under  Placement Assessments, Chose Writing Challenge Placement Assessment

You can determine your registration status by:

Step 1. Log into FlashLine from http://www.kent.edu

Step 2. Under Student Resources, select Courses & Registration

Step 3. Under Courses & Registration, click on Check Registration Status

NOTE:  If you are an incoming freshman in the Fall semester, you must contact an academic advisor to make changes to your schedule.

NOTE:  The Grade Change Workflow is not available when submitting mid-term grades.  If the mid-term deadline is missed, instructors must verbally advise students of their mid-term grades.

One indication that you have missed the grade submission deadline is that drop down boxes will not be available to input grades.  To submit grades after the deadline, use the grade change workflow.  NOTE: If an instructor is trying to submit a grade change the day after the grading deadline for a course, the Grade Change Workflow may not be available for use. There is a delay between the time that the grading window is turned off and when grades are officially rolled to academic history. If you are unable to submit a grade change request, please try again the next day.

To open the grade change workflow:

Step 1. Log into FlashLine from  http://www.kent.edu

Step 2. Under Faculty & Advisors, select Faculty Dashboard

Step 3. Under Faculty Workflows, select Grade Change Workflow

Instructors will only see the grade in their FlashLine roster after they have rolled to academic history, not updates that are made to grades after that. The instructor can go into the grade change workflow and review a previously submitted request to check the status of it. That is done by going into "My Action Items", clicking "Grade Change" in the Workflow & Utilities channel, entering their FlashLine password, and clicking the link to search for historical grade changes.

For additional assistance, view the Grade Change Workflow Reference Guide document on the Information Services Web site.  For more information on grade submission deadlines, click here.

Step 5. Click the Print button
