Students in the School of Theatre and Dance are immersed in a professional culture that,
combined with Kent State's liberal arts foundation, prepares them for a life in the arts. In additions to
in-depth  coursework, our comprehensive training programs are rooted in a commitment to student
success through mentorship and real-life experiences. The School of Theatre and Dance offers programs
leading to Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts degrees.

Undergraduate Degrees

Students enrolled in The School of Theatre and Dance can earn Bachelor of Arts degrees in Dance Studies and Theatre Studies and Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees in Dance Performance, Design Technology and Production, and Musical Theatre. Undergraduate students may also pursue a minor in dance or minor in theatre.

Graduate Degrees

Kent State University's School of Theatre and Dance offers M.F.A. programs in Acting for the Returning Professional, Design and Technology, and Acting. Students pursuing the graduate program in Design and Technology will concentrate their studies in one of four areas: Costume Design, Lighting Design, Scenic Design, or Theatre Technology.

Auditions and Portfolio Reviews

The School of Theatre and Dance holds auditions for the B.A. in Dance Studies, B.F.A. in Dance Performance, B.F.A. in Musical Theatre, and Dance minor multiple times per year. 

Porthouse Theatre College and International Academies

Summer Study Opportunities

The School of Theatre and Dance offers multiple summer study opportunities for current Kent State students as well as local high school students and international students.

Students take an original work to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Scotland.

Study Away Opportunities

Opportunities to experience theatre and dance on a national and global scale is an important component of study within the School of Theatre and Dance. Students have multiple opportunities throughout the academic year to participate in study away programs in the areas of both dance and theatre.
