How do I change my major? Will changing my major effect my graduation date?

It is highly recommended that you schedule an appointment with an advisor before changing your major. Once you have done so, you can change your major in FlashLine. During your advising appointment, your advisor will be able to map out your degree requirements and provide a graduate date. You can check out our Major Change Guide for more information.

How long do I have to complete my major?

CCI majors have a sequence of courses that progress from developing skills in your major, to focusing on your specialization, to culminating experiences. Most students require 6 academic semesters to complete these courses in sequence. This does not include your Kent Core or Additional Major requirements. Meet with an advisor to map out your unique pathway to graduation.

What is the job placement rate after graduation? What type of job can I get after graduation?

Job types and placement will depend on the CCI major that you choose.  See our career exploration resources for some of the top industry trends in fields related to CCI.

Am I required to get an internship in order to graduate?

You can find the requirements and contact person for each school regarding internships in the internship section of our website.

What are ways I can get involved in my new major?

While succeeding in the classroom is important, getting involved and engaged in your area of study is just as important!  There are many ways to get involved within our college and schools.  Check out our student involvement page on the CCI website

Who will be my CCI advisor?

Your new advisor is assigned based on the first letter of your last name.  You can find your advisor in the Advising and Graduation section of the website.

Can I transfer credits from another university or college to my CCI major at Kent State?

Please view the Kent State Transfer Credit Guide to see how your transfer credits may be applied to your degree. If you have taken a class at another college or university that is not listed on the Transfer Credit Guide, you may meet with an Advisor to determine next steps. Please obtain a copy of the course syllabus prior to your meeting.

Please note that the School of Journalism & Mass Communication is accredited by ACEJMC and can accept a maximum 12 credit hours of JMC transfer coursework toward JMC majors. (The maximum of 12 credit hours does not include Kent Core classes, Additional Major requirements, or general electives).
