Schedule an appointment with your current advisor to discuss the major or minor you’ve selected. If you’re already assigned a major in the College, you can find your advisor in our Advising & Graduation section. If you’re not yet in the College, you can find your current advisor in FlashLine under Student Dashboard > My Advisors.
Once you’ve got the okay from your advisor, declare your CCI major or minor in FlashLine under Student > Resources > Advising and GPS > Change Undergraduate Program
If you’re a new student applying to Kent State for the first time and would like to declare a CCI major upon admission, follow these steps:
It is highly recommended that you schedule an appointment with an advisor before changing your major. Once you have done so, you can change your major in FlashLine. During your advising appointment, your advisor will be able to map out your degree requirements and provide a graduate date. You can check out our Major Change Guide for more information.
CCI majors have a sequence of courses that progress from developing skills in your major, to focusing on your specialization, to culminating experiences. Most students require 6 academic semesters to complete these courses in sequence. This does not include your Kent Core or Additional Major requirements. Meet with an advisor to map out your unique pathway to graduation.
While succeeding in the classroom is important, getting involved and engaged in your area of study is just as important! There are many ways to get involved within our college and schools. Check out our student involvement page on the CCI website.
Please view the Kent State Transfer Credit Guide to see how your transfer credits may be applied to your degree. If you have taken a class at another college or university that is not listed on the Transfer Credit Guide, you may meet with an Advisor to determine next steps. Please obtain a copy of the course syllabus prior to your meeting.
Please note that the School of Media and Journalism is accredited by ACEJMC and can accept a maximum 12 credit hours of major transfer coursework toward its majors. (The maximum of 12 credit hours does not include Kent Core classes, Additional Major requirements, or general electives).
