Student Government Gearing Up on East Liverpool, Salem Campuses

The advisory board for the Kent State Salem horticulture program recently met and received updates from administration, faculty and students.

Dr. Steve Nameth, campus dean, shared his ideas for expanding the horticulture program and showcasing it across the region. Noting that the horticulture degree program is unique to the Salem campus, he assured board members that updates to curriculum, staff and resources will enhance the program’s reputation for quality instruction.

Kent State Salem Student Earns First Trumbull County Independent Insurance Agents Scholarship

Salem, Ohio – The Independent Insurance Agents of Trumbull County recently announced a new scholarship to benefit area students pursuing the bachelor of science degree in insurance studies at Kent State University at Salem. 

Kent State student Angela Maroni, of Leetonia, is the group’s first recipient. She is a 1997 graduate of Salem High School and has a double major in insurance studies and accounting.

Twenty-two second-year students from the Kent State University East Liverpool Occupational Therapy Assistant Program recently attended the American Occupational Therapy Association’s (AOTA) 2013 Hill Day in Washington, D.C.

With 752 registered attendees, this was the largest Hill Day in AOTA history. It trumped last year’s record number of 500-plus attendees.

Hill Day is an opportunity for occupational therapy professionals to take their advocacy and concerns straight to their elected officials and educate them on the issues critical to occupational therapy.

Kent State University at East Liverpool recognized the academic achievements of numerous students, and the generosity of scholarship donors during its annual Fall Scholarship Reception.

Dr. Stephen Nameth, dean of the Kent State Columbiana County campuses, welcomed the students, donors, family members and friends, while emphasizing the important role each relationship plays in measuring success at a university. He also acknowledged the many first generation college students at the event, himself included, and the importance of bridging that gap.  

Representatives from Kent State’s Salem campus recently attended the National Student Government Summit in Washington, D.C., meeting other student leaders from all across the country.
