Accessing Microsoft Teams

Who has access to Microsoft Teams?

All Kent State University staff and faculty have access to teams. Students at large do not have access, but student workers may be given access to Teams through the creation of an _stu account for them.

How do I access Microsoft Teams?

There are many ways to access MS Teams:

  • Via the web
  • Via the desktop application
  • Via the mobile app

Side menu with Download the Desktop App Tooltip textTo access MS Teams via the web you can go to teams.microsoft.com on Chrome, Firefox or Microsoft Edge and log in with your Kent State email and password.

To access MS Teams via the desktop application you can ask your local desktop support person to download it for you or you can download the application via MS Teams on the web. To do this you follow the instructions above to log into Teams via the web, then click on the last icon on the side menu to start the download.

To access MS Teams via the mobile app, keyword search “microsoft teams” in either the Google Play Store, or Apple App Store, to download the app. Once it’s finished downloading, open the app and sign in with your Kent State email and password.

The MS Teams mobile application has almost all of the same capabilities as the desktop version of Teams. The differences are in the interface and notifications. The Menu for the Mobile App is along the bottom and Your Profile is located in the three dashes icon in the top left corner of the app. See images for reference.

Managing Notifications on Mobile

Teams Mobile Notification SettingsThere are two separate ways to manage notifications in the MS Teams mobile application. You can manage the notifications you would like to receive from Teams in the Notifications section of Your Profile (see image below).

You can toggle on and off the things you want Teams to tell you about, and you have the option to not receive notifications on mobile when you are using Teams on the computer. These are not the notification settings of your phone though and so you will also need to choose your notification settings for the Teams mobile app in your phone’s settings as well.
