Communiversity Band | Kent State University

The University Band, also known as the "Communiversity Band," is open to all university students and community members who wish to continue performing traditional band literature.  Please see below for a Summer band opportunity!

2018 SUMMEr BAND

Rehearsals for the Summer 2018 Communiversity Band will take place in the KSU Center for the Performing Arts building.  

Schedule

  • Wed., May 23, 7-9:30 p.m.
  • Wed., May 30, 7-9:30 p.m.
  • Wed., June 6, 7-9:30 p.m.
  • Wed., June 13, 7-9:30 p.m.
  • Wed., June 20, 7-9:30 p.m.
  • Wed., June 27, 7-9:30 p.m.

The final concert will take place on Thursday, June 28 at 7 p.m. in downtown Kent's beautiful Hometown Bank Plaza!

The summer Communiversity Band is directed by Dr. Jesse Leyva.

Concerts

The ensemble is dedicated to broadening the artistic level and interest of its members through a low-pressure, once-a-week rehearsal and performs one concert each semester (Fall and Spring) as well as the popular summer concert held in downtown Kent in late June every year. 

Practicum

The Communiversity Band also serves as a practicum for music education majors to conduct and play secondary instruments.

Membership 

Membership is open to all university students and community members.

The Communiversity Band is directed by Dr. John Franklin.
