Communiversity Band

The University Band, also known as the "Communiversity Band," is open to all university students and community members who wish to continue performing traditional band literature.

Rehearsals for the Summer 2019 Communiversity Band will take place in the KSU Center for the Performing Arts building.

  • Wed., May 29, 7-9:30 p.m.
  • Wed., June 5, 7-9:30 p.m.
  • Wed., June 12, 7-9:30 p.m.
  • Wed., June 19, 7-9:30 p.m.
  • Wed., June 26, 7-9:30 p.m.

The final concert will take place on Friday, June 28 at 7 p.m. in downtown Kent's beautiful Hometown Bank Plaza!

The summer Communiversity Band is directed by Dr. Jesse Leyva.

Academic Year Communiversity Band


The ensemble is dedicated to broadening the artistic level and interest of its members through a low-pressure, once-a-week rehearsal and performs one concert each semester (Fall and Spring) as well as the popular summer concert held in downtown Kent in late June every year. 


The Communiversity Band also serves as a practicum for music education majors to conduct and play secondary instruments.


Membership is open to all university students and community members.


The Communiversity Band is directed by Dr. Wendy Matthews.
