New Administrators and Appointments
J.R. Campbell, executive director of Kent State University’s Design Innovation Initiative, effective fall 2018
Sarah J. Rogers, director of the Kent State University Museum, effective Aug. 1.
New Kent State Board of Trustees Members
Robert S. Frost of Lakewood, Ohio. Mr. Frost’s appointment runs through May 16, 2026. He fills the seat of former Trustee Stephen Colecchi, whose term expired in 2017.
The Rev. Dr. Todd C. Davidson Sr. of Lyndhurst, Ohio. Dr. Davidson’s appointment began June 13, 2018, and ends May 16, 2027. He fills the seat of former Trustee Lawrence Pollock, whose term expired this year.
Catherine Ross, Ph.D., was appointed as National Trustee for a three-year term at the June 6, 2018, Board of Trustees meeting. Dr. Ross currently works at Georgia Institute of Technology. A Kent State graduate, Dr. Ross joins Michael Solomon in this nonvoting role.
Undergraduate Student Trustee Nick Kollar of Stow, Ohio. Mr. Kollar’s appointment began Aug. 10, 2018, and ends May 6, 2020. He replaces Carly Evans, whose term as a student trustee expired.
New University Initiatives
Gateway to a Distinctive Kent State - a 10-year facilities master plan that embarks on a $1 billion transformative journey of the Kent Campus to better serve the needs of students and the entire Kent State community. The plan enhances the welcoming feel of the university’s iconic Front Campus and genuine sense of place, elevates inclusive healthy living-learning environments, links a campus-wide series of spaces focused on innovation and expands the dynamic synergy with the city of Kent.

Name Changes
The Center for Architecture and Environmental Design has been named The John Elliot Center for Architecture and Environmental Design. Please note capitalization of The in the new name. This was approved by the Kent State Board of Trustees at its meeting on Sept. 12, 2018.
Eastway Fresh Food Company (formerly known as Eastway Café), The Market (formerly known as Kent Market II) on the ground floor of the Kent Student Center.
Handshake is the new online platform to manage student employment, replacing Flash @ Work.
Liquid Crystal Institute has revised its name to the Advanced Materials and Liquid Crystal Institute, effective fall 2018.
Welcome Weekend is now KSU Kickoff.
New Venues
Mary J. Timken Theatre, located on the first floor in the Fine Arts Building at Kent State University at Stark.
A group of design studios in The John Elliot Center for Architecture and Environmental Design has been named the John and Fonda Elliot Design Studios.
The east wing on the second floor of the Rockwell Hall Atrium has been named the Carol A. and Douglas M. Mancino Atrium Wing.

Once again, Kent State earned a coveted first-tier spot on the Best National Universities list by U.S. News & World Report in its 2019 Best Colleges rankings.
