The School of Theatre and Dance is pleased to share that associate professor Fabio Polanco is directing "La Siempreviva" by Miguel Torres at LatinUS Theatre in Cleveland. The production features the outstanding work of Kent State University School of Theatre and Dance students Alexandra Baxter and Amanda Kittel; alumni Jaemin Park, Rafaela Clerle, and Tiffanie Chau-Dang; and Associate Professor Courtney Brown.
ABOUT:
Set in Bogotá, Colombia, "La Siempreviva" by Colombian playwright Miguel Torres tells the story of the M-19 guerilla group’s November 1985 siege of the Palace of Justice and the subsequent re-siege by the Colombian army from the viewpoint of ordinary citizens. Julieta Marin, a law student working to pay for her studies in the Palace of Justice’s cafeteria, disappears during the siege and does not reappear among the survivors or the dead. Her disappearance unleashes chaos among those who knew her best: Sergio - a waiter who is also a clown, Victoria - Sergio’s wife, Carlos - a pawnshop owner, Humberto - Julieta’s immature brother, and Lucia - Julieta’s mother. Directed by Fabio Polanco, the cast features Monica Torres, Nathalie Bermudez, Jono Rodriguez, Kivin Bauzo, Jose Martín Pacheco, Angel Valenzuela, and Sandra Insaurralde.

About Miguel Torres: In addition to writing plays, Torres was a director and novelist. He was born in Bogota, Colombia in 1942 and founded the theater, El Local, in Bogota in 1970. Torres has penned 12 works and won many awards, including, the National Award for Adapted Screenplay in 1999 for “La Siempreviva.” LatinUs and the production of “La Siempreviva” is made possible through support from the Cleveland Foundation, The George Fund Foundation, Cuyahoga Art and Culture, Ohio Art and Council, The Char and Chuck Foundation, and the Paul M.
