As an Environmental Studies senior, Kiki Masters spent the summer looking underground. With mentorship from Tim Gallagher, PhD in the Department of Earth Sciences, Masters joined Kent State’s Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) program, supported by the Environmental Science and Design Research Institute (ESDRI), to study how carbon moves out of soils and what that means for climate change. “My research looks at how carbon moves out of soils,” Masters explained. “I collect gases from the soil at different depths and in areas with different amounts of vegetation...

A professor with Kent State's Department of Computer Science works with students on a research project

Kent State University and the University of Cincinnati have been awarded a nearly $3 million grant from the National Science Foundation's GRANTED program to launch the Supporting and Harmonizing Research Endeavors (SHARE) program. This initiative will transform how research institutions across the region collaborate, share expertise and develop the next generation of research leaders.Led by Co-Principal Investigators Douglas L. Delahanty of Kent State University, Jane E. Strasser of the University of Cincinnati, and James Reecy of Iowa State, the SHARE program addresses critical national needs...

STAR Detector

Brookhaven National Lab in New York is home to some of the most exciting work in nuclear physics today. Two rising stars from Kent State University, doctoral student Maci Kesler and research scientist Sooraj Radhakrishnan, are on the cutting edge of high-profile scientific research collaborations through Brookhaven that advance our understanding of the universe’s early moments. Both work with Zhangbu Xu, Ph.D., professor at Kent State's Department of Physics in the College of Arts and Sciences, who has a research focus in high-energy nuclear physics. Their research connects Kent State to ground...
